I got so much love on my Instagram post about Pizza Hut's BOOK IT! Program, that I figured I'd write a quick blog post with more details and answer some questions I received! [Thank you to Pizza Hut for Sponsoring this post.]
She's a book worm, but will definitely pause for pizza!
If you remember this from your childhood, you know that the BOOK IT! Program encourages reading at home and at school with praise, recognition, and pizza rewards! Now through Dec 31, 2022, for every BOOK IT! Bundle sold, Pizza Hut will donate $1.00 to its literacy partner, First Book, a non-profit dedicated to educational equity. For more information about First Book, visit bit.ly/34ciRmc.
The BOOK IT! Program knows how much of an impact literacy has on young children, and one of the first things I learned while getting my Masters in Education is the earlier you read to/ with your kids, the better off they'll be academically.
The BOOK IT! Bundle includes 2 large, 1-topping pizzas and breadsticks - perfect for pizza-loving families and BOOK IT! kids (now adults) with fond memories of their favorite childhood program. I still remember being SO excited to earn my personal pan pizza!
DID YOU KNOW:
Daily reading to children puts them almost one year ahead of those not being read to.
Children without basic reading ability when they enter school are 3-4 times more likely to drop out later.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends parents read aloud with children to strengthen language skills, literacy-development, and parent-child relationships.
How It Works:
The program is offered to all students in K-6 grades (ages 5-12) at the school they primarily attend. Each year, teachers/home educators set monthly reading goals for the students in their class/children (Number of minutes, number of pages or number of books – they all work!) Parents and/or home educators can even read with their kids that are not yet reading independently. When a student reaches their reading goal, the parent/teacher awards the student with a Reading Award Certificate for a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut!
How Do You Enroll?
The digital program allows teachers to send Reading Award Certificates directly to parents by email. Here are a few things to remember:
Parent emails and approval are required for a student to participate in the digital version of the program.
Digital certificates can be redeemed by parents for dine in, carry-out or delivery and online.
Teachers who choose the digital program also have access to classroom mode, found under the reporting section of the classroom dashboard.
